| Insufficient coal stocks ail Haryana power plants |
| Friday, March 04, 2011 |
Lack of sufficient coal stock at thermal plants of Haryana may affect power generation and be a recipe for power crisis in the state. The coal stock at all the three thermal plants of state is negligible and the plants are being run on daily basis. A senior official said that if this is the situation in lean period what will happen in coming summer months and paddy season. Thermal plants are supposed to keep a stock of 25 days of coal requirements as per Central Electricity Authority guidelines. The state has recently placed order for imported coal on January 17 to tide over the difficult situation. The running of thermal units is dependent upon daily receipt of coal rakes from coal mines. Senior officers have been deputed to monitor the situation. Central Electricity Authority website shows the coal stock at three thermal stations varies from zero to one day. At 1360 MW Panipat thermal plant the available coal stock on Monday was just sufficient for one and half day. Similarly at 1200 MW Khedar thermal plant the stock is nil. Both units of plant are running on the basis of daily receipt of coal. Yamuna Nagar Thermal Plant has a coal stock of 11000 MT while daily requirement is 8900 MT.
